Day 20: What do you think makes someone beautiful? (x)

Oh this one’s easy. Someone is beautiful when they’re real.

Someone isn’t beautiful just because of the clothes on their back, that just means they have a little more money in their back pocket than most people. Someone isn’t beautiful just because of their weight or their body structure because that changes, that fades away. Did you know that the societal view of beauty in the late 17th century, big boned women were the ones considered “beautiful”? Society - scratch that, the world’s version of beauty is ephemeral and twisted and not beautiful at all. It tells people that they have to be a certain way just to be beautiful. It’s like telling a person how to live their lives. It’s like telling a kid that wants to paint that that kid should grow up to be an astrophysicist. It’s stupid and insane and restricting and it isn’t right.

Someone is beautiful when they’re true to themselves. When they don’t have to look in the mirror just to point out all the flaws that aren’t really flaws. Who told you that your scars are ugly? Who told you that it’s not okay to have blemishes? Who told you that you have to be tan or white or whatever? Who told you? You did. You let yourself believe all the lies that media is feeding you (as a media practitioner who hates the current industry, I really hate this part of my job). You don’t have to set yourself in a standard that isn’t you. If you’re a little too tall or a little too short for the world, who gives two ducks (yes, ducks - like… quack and stuff)? You’re not them and they’re never going to be you.

You are so, so beautiful when you smile. You are beautiful when you look in the mirror and see nothing but the person who was beautifully and perfectly made to exist and live in this world. You are perfectly made. Never, ever forget that.
